Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a nearby neighbor worth visiting. So is the Atlantic Ocean whose shimmering waves lap at Sandbridge's secluded five-mile shore.

Things To Do

Sandbridge serves up an ocean of activities – a true water lover’s paradise! You can surf, standup paddle, canoe or kayak, bike, hike and fish! Head for the ocean for hours of wave riding and endless fun! And with so many miles of waterways to explore and wildlife to see, Back Bay is a fantastic location for the kayaker and nature enthusiast! Try something new and learn how to Stand Up Paddle, one of the fastest growing sports in our area! You can rent a board locally, take a lesson, and spend your time rolling on the waves in the ocean or the flatwater of the bay. Several local companies offer SUP Tours, where you can paddle out to get up close with the dolphins, or enjoy a happy hour and evening sunset. Yoga enthusiast? Yoga on a stand up paddleboard will reinvigorate you and push you to become an even better yogi than you thought possible, all while enjoying the natural relaxation of floating on the water.

Hooked on fishing? Cast your line in the surf or off Little Island Park's fishing pier, open 5:30 am - 11 pm daily. If you prefer calmer waters, head for Back Bay, a large body of water just west of the Sandbridge Beach shoreline. Fishermen will find a variety of fish including crappie, bream, bluegill, cat fish, largemouth bass, flounder and white perch. If you're a golfer, welcome to heaven. Three great courses are close by: Hell's Point, just five minutes away; Heron Ridge; and Virginia Beach National. Hell’s Point offers our guests a discount on greens fees, and is very close to your rental property!

Little Island Park is a great family spot with the largest public beach in Sandbridge and is lifeguarded in season. There are designated surfing and swimming only areas for your enjoyment and safety. There's also a playground for the kids, fishing pier, covered picnic shelters, basketball courts and lighted tennis courts, bath houses and lots of parking. There is a parking fee. Little Island Park is also where you can catch a tram to tour Back Bay National Wildlife Park. Check the Virginia Fish & Wildlife website for tram dates and times.

There's also a lifeguarded beach at 2500 Sandfiddler Road, where the Sandbridge Market is. Public parking and restrooms are available (parking for a fee).

Ready to explore some more? Virginia Beach is a mere 20 minutes away, and offers a wide array of attractions, amusements, museums, restaurants, nightlife and shopping! Just a bit further is Norfolk, home to Nauticus, a maritime museum, the USS Wisconsin, a battleship to tour, and various art museums and parks.
