Friday the 13th
Posted by Sandbridge Realty | Friday, July 13, 2018

Today is Friday the 13th and what better way to commemorate this day than by sharing some stories of Virginia Beach's haunted past.

Cavalier Hotel

The Cavalier Hotel is the most famous haunted place in Virginia Beach. The hotel was built in the 1920's and attracted such famous names as Bette Davis, Al Capone, and Woodwrow Wilson.

The most notable spirit to haunt the Cavalier Hotel is Adolph Coors. Coors was the founder of Coors beer and died in 1929 when he fell outside a sixth story window. Circumstances surrounding his death are a bit cloudy. It was never determined if he jumped or if he was pushed out the window. Numerous guests have reported feeling his presence on the sixth floor.

Princess Anne Country Club

Many spirits have been reported at the Princess Anne Country Club. Among them is a mean spirited man wearing a cape who likes to chase people away. Please have also reported seeing a bride accompanied by eerie music. During renovations, construction workers claimed to hear what sounded like drinking glasses and silverware being set up.

Ferry Plantation House

As many as eleven spirits are believed to haunt the Ferry Plantation House. The house was built in 1830 but the land has been inhabited since 1642. One of the spirits have been identified as Sally Rebecca Walke who's mourning the loss of her loved one Thomas Williamson, a painter. Another famous spirit who calls the Ferry Plantation House home is the Lady in White. It is believed she died after falling down the stairs in 1826.

Elbow Rd

The urban legend of Elbow Rd centers around Mrs. Woble. You'll notice that her named spelled backwards is elbow. She lived in a house along one of the bends of Elbow Rd. Anyone who's been down this road knows how dangerous and curvy it is. One night, police found broken glass at the back door, an uneaten dinner on the table, and blood all over the upstairs area. A body was never found and the house was eventually torn down. Since then, there have been sightings of a bloodied and worn down body on Elbow Rd.
