Just like that we're into mid-May. Summer is quickly approaching and there is no shortage of events to keep everyone busy. First up this weekend is the Pungo Off Road Monsters on the Beach. This event takes place starting today, Friday May 11th and concludes on Sunday, May 13th. Yes, Mother's Day is May 13th but who's to say moms and monster trucks don't go together? Pungo Off Road Monsters on the Beach is a fun family event that takes place on 6th St at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Watch from the bleachers overlooking the boardwalk as monster trucks take over the sand dunes.

The Pungo Wine Festival is on Saturday May 19 at BackBay Farms located just 5 miles from Sandbridge. Come out and try some local wines for a good cause.The Pungo Wine Festival benefits Connect With a Wish. Get your tickets now while they're only $30; the price goes up to $35 on the day of the event. If wine isn't your thing there is also craft beer, live music, food trucks, local artists and vendors. Feel free to bring a blanket or chair while enjoying a fun-filled afternoon with friends.

Also next weekend is Warbirds Over The Beach. This event takes place from May 18th -20th. This is defintely not your ordinary air show. Step back in time and see World War II era planes take flight in the sky. There will be hundreds of re-enactors on hand that will make you feel like you've been transported into the 1940's.

The 35th Annual Pungo Strawberry Festival takes place from May 25th to May 27th. The very first festival in 1983 saw 50,000 attendees and last year it reached 120,000. The main focal point of the festival takes place on Saturday May 26th at 10am when thousands line up to watch the grand parade. This is an alochol-free family friendly event. Highlights include pony rides, three stages with continuous entertainment, and of course plenty of food. You can find strawberries offered 50 different ways. Favorites include the strawberry tacos and chocolate covered strawberries.
